Whose people stayed, whose people came and went? And whose people’s relatives were immigrants? Who’s just telling it like it isn’t? Whose people want to build a wall, build a fence When they can’t tell who they’re keeping out, who they’re keeping in Who’s original, who’s ignorant? And who wants to blame it on Chicago, the Muslims, Mexico, anybody without a home, or anyone who doesn’t look like you moving to where you think you’re from? How many generations are you removed from a foreign son? Who’s committed theft and who’s been calling dibs? And who believes possession was about nine tenths? Who has heritage that’s privileged? Who’s a criminal, who’s innocent? How new are you to town? How long have you been allowed to say that you were here first when you’re just here now? How deep are your roots down? How long have you been around? Were you here first? Are you just here now? Were you here first? Are you just here now? And who wants to blame it on Chicago, the Muslims, Mexico, anybody without a home, or anyone who doesn’t look like you moving to where you think you’re from? How many generations are you removed from a foreign son?

So steady, stubborn Kicking dead horses covered Ready for burdens buried But I’ll be damned if I didn’t stop neck high I’ll be damned if I didn’t look them in the eyes And wonder why I started over the last time, the last time I passed them by before I realized That the grass ain’t greener on the other side One day I may decide to leave that hatchet where it lie Unless on second thought my second guess is fine Cuz I thought I started over the last time the last time Those grudges are gold Too gold to let go Buy high, sell low if I can borrow trouble tomorrow I bet I never have to let them go if I can borrow trouble tomorrow And I thought I started over the last time And I thought I’d never try to rewind With any new start I’d find myself behind And I thought I started over the last time So steady, stubborn Kicking dead horses covered Ready for another repeat Buy high, sell low if I can borrow trouble tomorrow I bet I never had to let them go if I can borrow trouble tomorrow

Ok, Alright 03:37
I saw big business potholes on the roads my money buys Alright, ok, ok, alright And big box stores planted on the land my taxes subsidize Alright, ok, ok, alright And another chain’s trying to rearrange my slice of paradise And they’ll have their way when Main Street’s remade in the shade of new high rise Alright, ok, ok, alright What’s the cost of living? What’s the cost of bargain life? Alright, ok, ok, alright Just enough to pay attention? Just enough to pay no mind? I saw a full-time workforce wide awake all day, all night Alright, ok, ok, alright And staying late on a holiday when it should be family time Alright, ok, ok, alright But they can’t afford what they make, so they’re gigging on the side And on their way to hurry up and wait in a food pantry line Alright, ok, ok, alright What’s the cost of living? What’s the cost of bargain life? Alright, ok, ok, alright Just enough to pay attention? Just enough to pay no mind? Just enough to wise up to bargain life? Just enough to play dumb and pay no mind? Just enough to grow up and realize you’re used to losing and too damn numb to terrify? That you’ve been living just below the bottom line? And that you’ve been paying it forward with every nickel and every dime? But you can open up your eyes and change the world one neighborhood at a time Who bought the suit my congressman wears cheating on his wife? Alright, ok, ok, alright What’s the cost of living? What’s the cost of bargain life? Alright, ok, ok, alright Just enough to pay attention? Just enough to pay no mind? Ok, ok, alright Ok, alright

Like you, Chris & Emily are trapped on a rock hurtling through perpetuity. In their free time, they craft angry, wholesome sing-alongs that urge you to root for the underdog & give a damn about your neighbor.
